Rim Cylinders
Rim Cylinder locks are often used for low-security installations and older residential properties. While these locks can conform to BS 3621, Insurance companies will often insist on a Mortice lock in addition, because Rim Cylinders have a low security rating.
A Nightlatch must be present on the back of the door; otherwise the locking catch can be bypassed very easily. Rim Cylinders are sometimes erroneously referred to as Yale Locks, as Yale is the biggest manufacturer of these locks. However, other companies, such as Chubb, manufacture them as well.
Like Rim Locks, these types of lock are vulnerable to break-ins if not supplemented with additional security.
